Multimodal Engagement and sustainable Lifestyle Interventions Optimizing breast cancer Risk reduction supported by Artificial intelligence
The MELIORA Consortium aims to design 8 tailor-made lifestyle interventions and behavioural modification studies to promote sustainable behavioural changes among three target populations: i) healthy women at risk of developing breast cancer, ii) breast cancer patients, and iii) breast cancer survivors. The studies are taking place across 4 different European countries (Greece, Sweden, Spain, and Lithuania) and 6 piloting centres targeting 2000 women in urban and rural areas. The consortium deploys digital tools, including Artificial Intelligence strategies, to design a Virtual Coach for the study groups involved. The goal of the Coach is to assess the effect of multiple individual and contextual factors in the uptake, sustainability, and scale up of behavioural changes. At the same time, the identification of barriers that prevent the uptake of sustainable behavioural change supports the development of approaches to reach and involve disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.

Impact
MELIORA involves 2080 participants in 4 countries, in Europe, including healthy women at risk and their families, breast cancer patients, and survivors. The results will lead to a set of comprehensive guidelines for implementing effective BC prevention interventions at scale. These will be broadly disseminated via the MELIORA network of stakeholders to increase the capacity of policy makers to achieve sustainable behavioural change for the target populations.
